This month is the time when we start thinking about the end of summer and the start of school. We become aware of our 2007 goals and start thinking about the work to be done in the fall. Work seems to gear up for a final run.
Graduation Rates at Career vs. Public Colleges
Students in degree programs of fewer than four years at career colleges have a 64% graduation rate compared with students at public colleges, who graduate at a 38% rate, according to the Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics.

Employers Spending Less Time and Money on Recruitment
|
|

Although competition remains intense for new college graduates, employers report spending less time and money to recruit them. This is among the key findings of the Employer Benchmark Survey, conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). Employers indicated that they had to interview 4.5 college candidates for every one they hired during the 1999-2000 recruiting season, down slightly from five candidates per hire a year earlier.
Marilyn Mackes, NACE's executive director, offered some possible explanations for the change in the job offer/acceptance ratio. "With increased access via technology to information about employers and job opportunities, students may be more selective about where they want to work," she says. "Employers also may have become more effective in educating students about their organizations. In either case, employers benefit from having to interview fewer candidates to identify new hires."
The survey also revealed that employers spent an average of $6,207 per hire (costs related to recruiting and hiring), down 17 percent from last year. The decrease in cost-per-hire may be attributed to more focused recruiting efforts. A number of survey respondents indicated that they had narrowed their geographic focus, targeted certain schools, or otherwise scaled back on the number of schools they visited.

How Do Students View College Recruitment?
|
|
EDge Interactive in a research study done in April 2004, found that American and Canadian perspective students ages 19 - 29:
- Apply to three schools
- Are influenced heavily by school visits and websites
- Programs are the primary concern; financial concerns are secondary
- Want a mix of email and mail from the perspective schools
- Want to hear from the school at least twice a month
